Sedaven High is an Adventist Christian School with an epic mission, to prepare young people for responsible citizenship in this world and the world come. We are committed to deliver quality in every aspect of our learners’ learning experiences, particularly encouraging learner growth academically, socially, emotionally and spiritually.

Our Christian values are biblically based. Learners give back to the communities their time and talents by engaging in a variety of conscientious outreach services. Hence, our philosophy statement is a much bigger concept as it encompasses, “more than the partaking of a certain course of study. It means more than a preparation for the life that now is. It has to do with the whole being, and with the whole period of existence possible to man. It is the harmonious development of the physical, the mental, and the spiritual power. It prepares the students for the joy of service in the world and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come.” Education, page 13.
General
The Seventh-day Adventist philosophy of Education places a high value on a “balanced education.”  Sedaven High School, therefore, arranges certain co‑curricular activities in accordance with the interests of the learners, and the skills and abilities of staff members.

Organised team sports with an undue emphasis on competition and winning as well as other inter‑school competitions are generally avoided, both for philosophical as well as practical reasons. The emphasis is on structured, but informal play and recreational activities. Learners have ample opportunity to relax with activities such as soccer, netball, badminton, tennis, volleyball, table tennis and swimming. Excursions and hiking expeditions are also undertaken. In all these co-curricular activities our aims are educational, and not just for the sake of amusement or entertainment.
Cell Phones
PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Cell phones continue to be a source of frustration at school.

Attention should be elsewhere.
Phones are “borrowed” and stolen and inevitably school staff has to try and solve the problem.
In some cases we have found cell phones with pornographic material on them, etc.

No cell phone may be in a learner’s possession at any time during school hours, or during any official appointment such as study-hours, worships, meals or Sabbath appointments.  This rule applies whether the learner has played with it or not.  Cell phones must be left locked up in their lockers in the dormitories during these appointments.  Cell phones found in a learner’s possession will be confiscated immediately.  A R100 fine is to be paid before the phone will be released at the end of the quarter.

It should be obvious that this rule is only one step away from stating that no cell phones are allowed at school under any circumstances.  We trust that the rule as given above will help to prevent many of the problems that the school is facing at the moment
